ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Dorothy Margaret and Elizabeth Alderson (1900 - 1992)

The Aldersons were twin sisters, Elizabeth Mary being the younger of the two who were born at Girsby Grange, Yorkshire in 1900. They were distant relatives of the Yorkshire artist William Etty, and grew up on a Yorkshire farm. They worked together on paintings, signing them jointly, loving to paint the animals around them and the landscapes of wherever they travelled. They were extremely popular in their day and found ready buyers for their paintings and that popularity continues unabated today. They exhibited their work widely including the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle and the Royal Academy, London, amongst others.
