Geordie Back Street

Typical of his style and humour. A wonderful example of his work.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Malcolm Teasdale (b.1944)

Malcolm Teasdale is a nationally acclaimed Fine Arts artist who has exhibited widely throughout the UK. He has recently had an extremely successful solo exhibition at Panter and Hall of St. James's, London.

Malcolm was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1944 and grew up in the city. He has had a long career of painting spanning more than 40 years. Latterly he has worked for a fine art publisher who was responsible for promoting his work in the UK and launching it at the N.E.C. in Birmingham.

He specializes in the use of gouache (a strong water-based paint). This is loosely applied in a combination of washes with heavy overlays of concentrated paint (a technique similar to the use of oils).

His subjects are mainly old industrial scenes and representations of the everyday life of workers and their families in the north of England during the 1940's and 50's. They are impressionist in style focusing on mood, social interaction and the climate of the day. The use of archival material helps to ensure that, for example, a bus, a poster, a packet of cigarettes, a football strip are authentic and true to that era. The sincerity, nostalgia and humour in Malcolm's work arise from his personal memories and underlying passion for the past.

In recent years he has launched the first Newcastle/Gateshead Art Fair for the events sponsor (H.S.B.C.) and opened the Whitewall Gallery in Grey Street (Newcastle) with a solo exhibition of his work. In 2012 a London gallery exhibited his work in the 20/21 British, London and Affordable Art Fairs and in September of that year the same gallery (Panter and Hall of St James's) hosted Malcolm's first London solo exhibition ('Lampblack').

Malcolm was the principal artist, showing in the Cube Gallery, at the Biscuit Factory (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) winter exhibition (2012/13). His collection, 'Union Street' was retained to be part of their spring exhibition.

Another solo, in 2014, at the Panter and Hall Gallery, now located in Pall Mall. And again this year(2016) in July at the same venue the showing of Malcolm's 'The Last Shift' collection. Malcolm has made the decision that this will be his last major exhibition, hence the title.
