John Birkett
The Lion's Pride (sculpture)

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

John Birkett

We are dlighted to welcome John to The Wallington Gallery. An extremely talented Scculptor who works with metal and produces some stunning work both large and small.

This is how John describes his work:-

With more than 40 years experience in the architectural metalwork industry producing work locally and nationally including prestigious locations like the Houses of Parliament and Kensington Palace,  I recently stumbled upon an exciting new opportunity right on my door step!

I was approached by my local village residents committee who asked me if I would design, create and install a memorial bench to commemorate 100 years since World War I that would sit in the heart of the village. This was a great honour for me and I was thrilled to be given the opportunity.

My vision for the memorial bench was to create not only something thought provoking but something that was going to be practical and stand the test of the North East weather.

Not only did I achieve this but it gave me a hunger to learn how to create more art through the medium of metal.  Since then I have designed and created many sculptures for clients and I’m now using recycled metal components including bicycle parts and cutlery.

Everyday I strive to develop my vision and create artwork that will have a lasting impact on my clients.
