ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

George Birtley Aris (1927 -2020)

The artist was born in Sunderland and later settled in Hexham, Northumberland where he taught at the local High School until 1982 when he embarked on an extremely successful career as a full time artist. He painted in both oils and watercolour and has shown his work in exhibitions around the world including in the USA, France and Mall Galleries in London and many provincial art galleries in the UK. He also became an illustrator and a renowned stained glass window designer. He has an extensive biography in both Marshall Hall's excellent reference book 'The Artists of Northumbria' isbn no 0 9532609 9 2 and on the internet.

Paintings by the artist are very rarely seen on the art market, especially in his native north east, collectors rarely part with them such was his talent and his painting's collectability.
