Provenance; From the family of Mr and Mrs Chater who bought the painting from the artist's studio.


Charles Napier Hemy (1841-1917)

Born Newcastle. Marine, Coastal and Landscape painter in oil and watercolours. Regarded as one of the greatest marine painters of his time. His work is represented in a number of Museums including: British Museum, Tate Gallery, National Maritime Museum and Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Exhibited at the Royal Academy.
