Alnmouth beach is one of the most well-known beaches in Northumberland and sits at the mouth of the River Aln. The village was once home to an important harbour, however, a storm in 1806 changed the course of the river, leaving the harbour stranded. The white sand and dunes of the vast beach are part of the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I painted this during my final year at university. I created this painting after walking on the beach just as a storm was coming in. The use of oil paint allowed me to layer the paint and create a more fluid painting.
