ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Ben Haslam BA (b.1962)

We are delighted to welcome Ben Haslam, a well known local artist, to The Wallington Gallery. We have admired his work for some years and believe his paintings are of an exceptionally high standard.

Ben Haslam, born in Bolton 1962, studied Fine Art at Salford College of Art after which he moved to the North East as a student, graduating from Newcastle-upon Tyne University in 1984. He held his first one man show in 1985. Ben Haslam is a leader amongst a new generation of British Watercolour painters noted for his dramatic dream like paintings which are made on location in all weathers or developed in the studio.  Inspired by the craft and skill of the Great Masters, his large-scale serene landscapes worked from memory are highly collectable and are held in many private collections worldwide. Although specialising in watercolour, Ben is a highly versatile artist working to commission using a variety of media including Oil and Acrylic paint. In industry as an Illustrator, his popular Pen-line and Wash Sepia studies have been used to sell tens of thousands of branded Sketch books.

Ben is highly regarded for his lectures and demonstrations and teaching skills to Art Classes Societies and Clubs.  Being sponsored by world market leaders Winsor and Newton Col Art and the international Exaclaire group formerly Tollit & Harvey Ltd. Popular publications such as ‘Artists and Illustrators’ and ‘The Artist’ Magazines have run numerous workshops and lectures with him throughout the UK.

In 2008 he opened HASLAM’S of HALLGATE a large and now thriving Art Gallery and ‘Centre for the Arts’ in the Northumbrian market town of Hexham. The gallery features work by Ben and other highly acclaimed Artists from the region and beyond.

With highly successful exhibitions behind him, 2011 and 2012 has seen exhibition collaborations with the historic property ‘Crook Hall’ situated in the heart of Durham one of the cities most popular tourist attractions.

Ben is inventor of the best selling artist’s stretcher the Keba Artmate which is currently manufactured in Sweden.
