We are delighted to be offering the works of Tony Montague, a well known and well respected Northumbrian artist, for sale through our website and gallery. Tony was born in Gateshead, educated at Gateshead Grammar School and then Newcastle University (Physics Degree). He spent 40 years in Industrial Computing with Northern Engineering Industries and latterly Rolls Royce. Active as a weekend and self-taught painter and sculptor for at least 30 years. In preparation for “retirement” attended Fine Art courses at Newcastle College and Northumbria University. After “dabbling” in most media he now concentrates on collage, acrylic painting and printmaking working as broadly as possible with a strong emphasis on colour. His favourite subjects are figurative and semi-abstract townscapes with people. Tony has exhibited extensively through the North of England Art Club, Federation of Northern Art Societies, Hatton Gallery, University of Northumbria and other local competitive exhibitions and his work has been purchased by Beamish Museum, North Tyneside Council and the House of Lords (2 paintings, 2004) for their permanent collections. His work also appears in commercial galleries across the North of England and Scotland and in private collections in Australia, Spain, US, Japan and Norway.
