Stephen Crowther b.1922

Full name Deryck Stephen Crowther. He was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire and studied at the college of art there winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art where he studied from 1946 -9 his teachers included Gilbert Spencer, Rodrigo Moyniham, Carel Weight and Ruskin Spear. He was included in Jack Beddingtons 1957 volume of Young Artists of Promise. A member of the RBA he was also president of the Hartlepool Art Club.  In 1992 he was commissioned to paint two oils for the Sultan of Oman.  Showed at the RA, RP and Leicester Galleries. Had solo exhibitions at the Gray Art Gallery and Museum, Hartlepool. Billingham Art Gallery and Middlesbrough Art Gallery.
