Bamburgh, once known as Bebbanburgh, was the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Occupied by Kings from Ida the Flamebearer to King Aethelfrith. Bamburgh castle is still the largest inhabited castle in the country, occupied by the Armstrong family since 1894. With the famous castle looming over it, the beach has become one of the most well-known beaches in Northumberland. I painted this during my final year at university. I used oil paints to depict the dark, moody landscape and to capture my emotions within the landscape.
