This wonderful oil on board is a self portrait of the artist. This has been authenticated by Marshall Hall. It has been framed behind glass in a heavy gilt frame which is believed to be original. Signed with initials (behind the slip) and dated 1895.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Charles Napier Hemy (1841-1917)

Born Newcastle. Marine, Coastal and Landscape painter in oil and watercolours. Regarded as one of the greatest marine painters of his time. His work is represented in a number of Museums including: British Museum, Tate Gallery, National Maritime Museum and Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Exhibited at the Royal Academy.
