Mardie Barrie b.1931

Painter and teacher born in Kirkcaldy, Fife. She studied art at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art, 1948 - 53, and went on to teach at Broughton High school in Edinburgh, where she lived. An exuberant painter and colourist, showed in many group exhibitions in Britain and abroad, notably in the Scottish arts Council's show Painters in Parallel. In 1963 she had a solo show at Douglis and Foulis Gallery in Edinburgh and Bruton Gallery, Somerset. Many public galleries hold her work including Glasgow and Laing art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne; a number of Scottish Education authorities; Scottish Arts Council; and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. was an RSW member.
