Wilson Hepple (1853-1937)
Born Newcastle and a founder member of the Bewick Club, Hepple was from a family of talented professional and amateur artists. He was taught at Newcastle School of Art under William Cosens Way. His first major work was produced at the age of twenty-two at Gallowgate Hoppings which was said to have astounded the art world of Newcastle. A versatile artist he produced hundreds of animal paintings and perhaps he is best known for his series featuring cats. Exhibited Central Exchange Art Gallery, Newcastle.
